A few good reasons to volunteer!

Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. Giving in even simple ways can help others those in need and improve your health and happiness.

Connects you to others – Volunteering helps people make new friends and contacts and allows you to increase your social and relationship skills.

Good for your mind and body – Being a volunteer can help to counteract effects of stress, anger and anxiety. It also helps to combat depression and increases self-confidence, provides a sense of purpose and helps you stay physically healthy.

Can advance your career – Volunteers often gain experience in new kinds of positions and help practice important skills like teamwork, communication, problem solving, project planning and organization.

Brings fun and fulfillment to your life – Being a volunteer allows you to explore new interests and passions, escape the day to day routine of work, and can help provide you with renewed creativity and motivation.

You don’t have to spend a ton of time volunteering to gain these benefits, 2-3 hours a week has been shown to provide the most benefits to both you and your chosen cause. It is important that you enjoy what you are doing as a volunteer so make you that you ask questions, know what is expected of you, don’t be afraid to make a change if it’s not the right fit, have fun and enjoy yourself!
