For as long as I can remember, PTA might as well have been called MTA (Moms Teachers Association). This is something that cannot go unnoticed or without extreme gratitude for the amazing Moms that have made our schools amazing for so long.

But as a former PTA Council DADS Chair I am challenging our PTA’s to reach out to the DADs of our schools. For the most part Dads don’t know what to do in the crafts, dance, and social gatherings. However, you run a woodworking fun day, sports evening, or a BBQ night and watch the Dads come out of the wood work (pun fully intended).

The days of saying Mom does it because she doesn’t work are over. All parents are equally busy today. We must change a stereotype here though and it will not be easy. Moms and Dads are both going to be of equal importance in the success or failure of future PTA’s.

It is going to take some work and some thought to get the Dads out there but male role models are in a dire demand within our schools and we owe to all the kids to at least attempt it. ~Seth Flowers, former Council PTA DADS Chair
